RE: Aluminum or Fiberglass Ext. vs. WiFi and Cell Phone signals

You need to do a little more electrical engineering study. A farady cage prevents the entrance or exit of electomagnetic fields. A cell phone or Wi-fi signal is not electromagnetic. The aluminum siding should be no difference then the fiberglass. jack L Perhaps it is you that should take a refresher course: Radio waves have the longest wavelengths in the electromagnetic spectrum. These waves can be longer than a football field or as short as a football. Radio waves do more than just bring music to your radio. They also carry signals for your television and cellular phones.

RE: Knifed new tire

... as long as there is no bear metal and enough liquid to completely cover the rims so they are not expose to air and the liquid... Hey JJ, where can I purchase some of that "bear metal"? Is it stronger than regular steel? :h

RE: Rank the Class A GAS build quality

Also consider looking at the Rexhall coach. We were very happy with ours before purchasing our current DP coach.

RE: CCC?

Ross, I weighed the coach on a CAT scale immediately after leaving the dealer lot and before we loaded a single personal item. I gave Tiffin a copy of the printout in early August when we were at the Tiffin service center. In a face-to-face meeting with Mr. Tiffin I offered to show him a weight sheet I had done showing weights on all axles and wheels. He was not interested in seeing the sheet and during the meeting told us the issue became less as fuel was consumed. :R So far I understand they may have arbitrarily changed the front axle rating on the Powerglide chassis front axle to 15,600 lbs and have asked Spartan to see if the rating on my axle can be changed to 15,600 or a 1,000 lb change from the current 14,600 lb rating. I was told Spartan would do some testing in Arizona during November and we would be notified of the results in January. Tiffin is also going to change the front wheels as the current ones are not rated for the current tire weight.

RE: weigh station

I believe most CAT scales are now $9.00 but you do receive a printout of the axle weights. These scales are also certified for accuracy and will pay the fine if a ticket is issued due to a inaccurate scale. I weighed my coach immediately after driving it off the dealer lot and had a copy of the slip from the scale to show Tiffin concerning the overweight front axle.

RE: CCC?

One issue to be very aware and careful about is overloading axles. After recently purchasing our new Tiffin Allegro Bus and finding the front axle was already overweight right off the assembly line it is of little comfort to have a CCC of over 8,000 lbs. :M Even the wheels were rated too low for the weight on the front tires. The issue is yet to be resolved however a little research has shown it is not a new issue and is certain ally not isolated to a couple manufacturers. Quite frankly, I think the Internet forums are allowing us customers to share information so more are becoming aware of the problems. I'm sure there are many coach owners who have no idea they have overweight axles. Others whom I have spoken with seem to be totally ambivalent about the problem and their coach weight. Considering engineers use computer design programs and prototype coaches are built, there is little excuse for this problem to exist. It appears that the manufacturers have been able to sell these products knowing full well the situating and have done little for the few who have complained as it has been difficult to share these issues in the past.

RE: Trouble with Mcdonough RV

What the member is dealing with is happens very often in poor economic times and is presently escalating. It is very important to know if there is a lien holder on the product and exactly how it will be resolved before giving a dealer any money. There are a good number of dealers in financial distress both small and large. Many have credit ratings lower than many of their customers. If Mcdonough RV is not answering their phones and the office is vacant it is very probable they are insolvent and your funds are gone. In these times BUYER BEWARE is the best advice.

RE: Compliment Section?

Recently I was named the "CANTANKEROUS CURMUDGEON" moderator of this forum section. :) That aside, I still enjoy reading the posts each day, helping members at times, and meeting forum members as we travel. I long ago learned I cannot please everyone and it takes some thick skin at times. However, I think one of the best things to occur due to the Internet is these helpful forums where we can share information with others. Additionally, the wonderful friends we have met at rallies and on the road just add frosting to the cake. :)

RE: low rv manufacturing standarts

Thats why I bought a Tiffin. No skimping from this company... Maybe your kool-Aid is a different flavor but I'm guessing your front axle is overweight as is mine. I'm also guessing you, as I have, had a good long punch list of items needing attention. Sure, Tiffin does do a good job of taking care of problems and has a one-of-a-kind in the industry factory service center that is operating at near capacity. And, yes, they do try to have good dealers and pay warranty claims promptly. But, most of what has needed repair on my new Allegro Bus should have never left the assembly line in the condition. For example, is wiring getting caught in the bedroom slide mechanism not an example of sloppy workmanship? You participate on the Tiffin forum as do I. We both read questions about problems should never exist. But, oh well, it's been reported that Mr. Tiffin is now a Billionaire and of course his grandson is a great kicker for 'Bama who will probably sign for a few mil. ....All of which does not help the fact I can only use 15% of rated CCC due to a major weight problem.

RE: low rv manufacturing standarts

Dick, The foreign manufactures flooded this company with junk. Nissan, Toyota and Honda all brought junk that was inferior and rusted. Did we hold it against them. No we bought them over the US made cars and forgave them with open arms. Today we are makeing great cars in the USA but do you think we will forgive the US automakers like we did the others. Your post is a perfect example of the answer. I have never owned, nor will I ever own, a foreign nameplate automobile. I do own four Ford products including a new Lincoln, and two motorhomes; one on a Ford chassis and one on a Spartan chassis. Yes, these autos are much better than what was produced some years back. However, much of this is due to automation. Now, as far as the motorhome industry is concerned, it is generally where the auto industry was thirty or forty years ago. As well as founding a successful business, I was originally a craftsman and a very good one. A few months back, we purchased our new Tiffin product which was well above entry level. We spent two weeks at Red Bay this summer and while the technicians were just super and did great work, most of the problems should not have existed in the first place. We will be back again in a few months to have a few more items fixed. Our local dealer has also taken care of several things and has done a very good job. Depending on time, I may have them do more. It just worked out the the factory was more convenient for us as it was close to our planned travel route. I'm in the process of having a concrete pad poured here at home and it has taken a week to arrive at a "meeting of the minds" as to the quality of the job I desired. It's like I had to hit the guy on the head to make him understand I wanted a first class product. He said most people are so cheap he has to cut corners. So, that is the operational mentality the work force falls into. Few young people today have the work ethic my generation learned and most think they are working too hard if they are asked to work a few hours overtime. I took 18 - 21 hours of credits in college and still worked two and three part-time jobs. Up until just the last few years I averaged 60 - 80 hours at work. I have paid my dues for what I have earned and I have no intention of putting up with sub-quality workmanship.

RE: No longer a Moderator

As the members probably well understand, over the years and course of time many us of moderators are able to get together at our rallies or meet each other as we travel the land. Many of us have become close friends as well as working together doing our best to keep the forum operating smoothly. Rodger has attended all but one of our rallies, spent many hours with Sandi and me on the phone both just visiting and also discussing forum issues, and exchanged hundreds of PM's. As much as Rodger has a quiet, easy way about him, he has been a real bedrock of the forum and has always been there for each of us when help or a steady opinion was needed and obviously is highly respected by all of us. Few realize just how passionate he has been about keep the forum working properly, maintaining high standards, and having a family friendly decorum. He has been instrumental in many developments of this forum over the years as well as moderating the B section. While Rodger may take some time off, we all still consider him part of our family, a life-long trusted and loyal friend, and above all, a really good person.
